2016 Festival Program

Winterset in Summer is Newfoundland and Labrador's unique literary festival designed to celebrate the writers of our splendid province. Meet new and established authors and hear them talk about their writing with celebrity hosts.

For 15 years Winterset in Summer has brought together writers from around the province, the country, and overseas to share their stories on the beautiful Eastport Peninsula. 2016 will be no different with an eclectic mix of the best in Canadian writing, drama, visual arts and film.

A trio of Giller winners - Lynn Coady, Will Ferguson and Elizabeth Hay - will get us off to an exciting start on Friday afternoon. David Macfarlane returns with his dramatization of The Danger Tree in his play "The Door You Came In". Back by popular demand is an en plein air event in historic Salvage with Scott Goudie. We'll meet new and exciting writers and songwriters. And our BMO Winterset Award finalists for 2015 will join Michael Enright on Saturday night.

Sunday will be a commemoration of Newfoundland's sacrifices in the Great War and, in particular, Beaumont Hamel. Frank Gogos and sculptor Morgan MacDonald will discuss their work and how their family's War service influenced their writing and art. Historians Margaret MacMillan and Richard Gwyn will have a one on one discussion about the War. Closing the festival will be Barbara Doran's film
"Newfoundland at Armageddon".
